Studio Tour 2008 Needs Sponsors

The popular Annual Monterey County Artist’s Studio Tour will be happening again on Sept. 27-28, 2008 and is looking for sponsors. Indeed this event cannot function without the generous support of its sponsors.

Monterey County Artist’s Studio Tour is a self-guided tour of Monterey county artists’ studios. It operates under the supporting affiliation of Artists Equity and Monterey Bay Artists Equity Fund Inc., a non-profit, non-partisan organization, and a forum for encouraging interest and participation in the visual arts.

This years Studio Tour is expecting at least 90 artists to participate. The 2-day event draws locals and tourists who often make a point to also include shopping, lunch, dinner and wineries as part of their weekend itinerary. The Studio Tour map showing the location of the artists’ studios will be an insert in the Monterey County Herald and the Monterey County Weekly. These two papers have a combined circulation of over 70,000. The map will also be available at high traffic locations such as hotels, Chamber of Commerce Offices, galleries, art stores, bookstores, libraries.

" Hurricane Katrina Blues"

A letter from New Orleans

Michael, I want to thank you for helping us set up an exhibit at the PGAC.  Joan and I have been in correspondence via email and she has pretty much helped us decided on the character and concept of the exhibit.  The 13 visual artists we have assembled are now finalizing their works under much duress and pressure.  I am happy to say that even under these dire circumstances, they are really rallying.  In an odd way having this opportunity has helped us all focus and grow artistic and spiritually.

I am still adding more artists.  Its like cultural archeology just to find them.  So many artists in all economic and social communities have lost their studios, tools and their work and relocated.  The Arts Council of New Orleans and the state have been keeping a data base just to find them but even that has not resulted in accurate emails.

How we have gone about inviting artists and getting their work together is in itself a story that we will present at the exhibit so viewers can grasp how it all developed.

Joan has been very helpful and almost everything is in place now.  This week we are filling out our consignment forms this week, making digital photographs the works, and fulfilling all the requirements Joan and the PGAC has required as stated in the Contract.  Joan has given me the dates for her receipt of all the admin work and will be receiving the art in mid-July and storing it for the Sept. 2 exhibition. I will be in PG by then.  Since we live in a hurricane zone it is dangerous to depend on the work staying here as the artists are going to get jittery each time a tropical storm comes up.

We are ahead of schedule and will complete my July 1 and the work will begin leaving here for PG that week.

Secondly, there are a few who would come for the opening and if accommodations could be provided for a few nights that would be a wonderful for us all.   I would send the names and emails of those attending to you or your committee chair who would be handling accommodations, and they can make arrangements directly.  I know of one woman who will come via SF with her daughter, another couple who would take the train or drive, and a third woman who would fly.  At this point that is only 4 people.if you are Vanila need me to detail any more prior to your board meeting let me know.  I am doing my best to get things done in a timely manner.Phyllis Parun
